Speech Communication

I. COURSE DESCRIPTION

This courser is designd to teach students the art and technique of oral communication through effective delivery giving importance to the processes of listening, relaxation and speacking. This course will also provide a background on the sounds of the English language.

II. COURSE OBJECTIVE

Upon completion of the course, the students is expected to:

1. explain the following processes of listening, relaxation, speacking, communication process
2. master the sounds of the English language: vowels, consonants, diphthongs and ohter variants
3. preform the following modes of delivery: imprmptu speaking, extemporaneous speaking, reading from a manuscript, memorized speech

III. COURSE CREDITS: 3 units

IV. PREREQUSITE: ENG 102

GRADING SYSTEM:

a. Class Standing: Quizzes 20%
Recitation 20%
Assignment 20%

b. Periodic Test: Prelim, Midterm, Final 40%
Total: 100%

c. Formula: 60% Class Standing (CS) + 40% Prelim Exam = Prelim Grade
60% CS + 40% Midterm Exam = Midterm Grade
60% CS + 40% Final Exam = Final Grade

d. Coputation: e.g. Prelim CS = 90 x 60%
Exam = 80 x 40% = 32
Prelim Grade = 54 + 32 = 86

Final Mark = (FG) 95 + (MG) 90 + (FG) 95/3 = 90.33
